Specialist Community Neurological Physiotherapy service

The Physical Disability Physiotherapy Service (PDPS) is a small specialist service providing physiotherapy to people aged over 18 years with a long-term neurological disability. It is a community-based service seeing people in their own homes as outpatients or in other appropriate settings, e.g. local leisure facilities. There is an emphasis on enabling clients and their carers to manage their disability in their own environment.

Accessing the service

GP referrals should be made using the OCCG Referral Pro Forma, emailed to the service

There is open access.  This includes referral from the patient, professionals or carers.
Patients can refer themselves via the telephone or by letter direct to the Physiotherapist

Who should be referred

  • Adults with a GP within Oxfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group
  • People with a long-term neurological disability, e.g. Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Motor Neurone Disease (MND), Head Injury, Spinal Cord Injury, Parkinson’s Disease or Stroke
  • People newly diagnosed with a progressive neurological condition, e.g. MS and MND

Exclusions - these patients are NOT suitable for our service:

  • Acute intervention where a rapid response is required, e.g. chest physiotherapy
  • Acute rehabilitation following a neurological event, e.g. CVA, Acquired Brain Injury
